Fees & Insurance
A 50-minute session is $150. Individual therapy can be billed to Aetna or Optum through Alma. Couples therapy and groups are private pay. The rest is on this page.
Session fees
Individual therapy
50 minutes
$150
Couples therapy, first session
70 minutes
$200
Longer, because both of you tell me the story, and I need to see the cycle before I can work with it.
Couples therapy, ongoing
50 minutes
$150
Couples intensive
110 minutes
$300
For when 50 minutes would stop us just as something real opens up.
Additional time
15-minute increments
$45
When an individual or couples session needs to run longer, the extra time is billed in 15-minute blocks, with a 15-minute minimum.
Concierge Hours
outside regular hours
+$75–$125
The session fee plus a convenience fee of $75 to $125 per hour. Available seven days a week, by my approval, and confirmed in writing before you book. For scheduling, not emergencies. My regular hours are on the Contact page.
The same rates apply across couples therapy, trauma therapy, and Getting Unstuck. What changes is the work, not the price.
Can I use my insurance?
It depends on which kind of therapy you are asking about, and the answer is not the same for both.
Individual therapy
In-network
I am in-network with Aetna and Optum through Alma. Your cost is whatever your plan sets as a copay, or your deductible if you have not met it yet.
Benefits are confirmed before your first session. If you use insurance, your invoices come from Alma rather than from my practice.
Couples therapy and groups
Private pay
Insurance pays for the treatment of one person's diagnosed condition. Couples therapy treats the bond between you, which is not a diagnosis and is not something a health plan reimburses.
Group programs are private pay for the same reason.
To check your individual benefits yourself, call the number on the back of your card and ask about outpatient mental health: your copay, your deductible, and whether telehealth is covered.
Group therapy
12 weeks · 90-minute sessions · 8–10 people · Online
$900 for the full program, and for our initial 2027 cohorts that includes your workbook.
| Option | Total | How it is paid |
|---|---|---|
| Pay in fullSave $45 | $855 | One payment at registration |
| Deposit and balance | $900 | $300 at registration, then $600 the day before the first session |
That works out to $75 for a 90-minute session, or about $71 if you pay in full. It is the least expensive hour in this practice and, for some of what people bring, the most useful one.
Paying, and changing plans
Payment
Individual and couples clients keep a card on file in the Client Portal and are charged at the time of session.
Group clients pay at registration, either in full or by deposit and balance as above.
All major credit and debit cards are accepted, along with HSA and FSA cards. I do not take cash, or peer-to-peer transfers such as Zelle, Venmo and Cash App.
Cancellations
Individual and couples sessions can be cancelled through the Client Portal, by email, or by text at least 24 hours ahead.
A late cancellation or a no-show is charged the full fee for that session — $150 for a standard session, $200 for a first couples session, $300 for an intensive. Insurance does not cover it.
A missed group session is not refunded, but you can make it up by attending that same session the next time the group runs. Ask while the group is still going.
If you need to leave a group
The $300 deposit is not refundable. It reserves your place and closes that seat to anyone else. Once a cohort has formed, the seat cannot be filled again.
Before the first session: everything you have paid above the deposit is returned.
Through the fourth session: you are refunded for the sessions that have not happened yet.
(amount you paid − $300) ÷ 12 × sessions remaining
After the fourth session: the balance is retained. Your seat was held for the full twelve weeks and cannot be refilled once a cohort has formed, and group size shapes the work for everyone else in it.
Illness, hardship and clinical reasons are their own conversation. Tell me what is happening and I will work it out with you.
Questions about cost
-
Because they are different services. Your individual therapy treats a condition you have been diagnosed with, and your plan pays for that. Couples therapy treats the relationship, and no plan pays for that, including yours. It is not a choice I am making about your coverage.
-
Yes, on request. A superbill is an itemized receipt you submit to your plan yourself.
I make no representation that your plan will reimburse any part of it. I also cannot tell you that a plan which does pay will not later review the claim, reverse it, and recover the money from you. That happens, and it happens most often with couples therapy, which plans frequently decide was never a covered service in the first place. If you submit a superbill for couples work, treat any reimbursement as a possibility rather than a plan.
-
One 110-minute session instead of two short ones. Couples use it when the fifty-minute hour keeps ending at the moment something finally opens. It is also useful early on, when there is a lot of story to get through before the work can start.
-
Twelve 90-minute sessions, your place in a cohort of eight to ten, and for the 2027 cohorts your workbook. There is nothing else to buy.
-
Yes. A parent, a partner or an employer can hold the card on file. What happens in the room is still yours, and I do not report on it to whoever is paying.
-
If you are uninsured, or insured and choosing not to use it, you have the right to a written estimate of what your care will cost before you begin. Ask me for one at any time, including before you schedule anything, and you will have it in writing within three business days.
If you are billed $400 or more above your estimate, you can dispute the bill. There is more at cms.gov/nosurprises, or by phone at 1-800-985-3059.
